Q&A with Brachie Sprung

Q: What is the Global Summer Institute and how is it different from the local fellowships?

A: The Global Summer Institute is a six-week condensed version of our longer local fellowship programs. Unlike the local fellowships, applicants can be from anywhere around the world and come together in Jerusalem from June 19-July 30 to take their ideas and make them into a proof-of-concept reality.

Q: How is the application process different from previous years?
A: Where in previous years we have had a basic two-stage application process, this year’s application process is starting with a stage to request an invitation. The request an invitation form, which was due January 15, asked for basic information about the potential applicant and their venture idea. Of those people who request an invitation to apply, 50 will be sent an application, which will request more detail and also include interviews.

We are also accepting invitation requests until February 20 for those people with ventures for specific tracks. Once all applications are reviewed, 16 applicants will be chosen to become PresenTense Fellows.

Q: What are tracks?
A: The Global Summer Institute accepts Fellows for tracks in Jewish Gaming, Environment, Social Action, Israel Education, and Jewish Education. Fellows who apply for a track are those people who have a venture or idea to develop something specifically within that area of interest.

Fellows that are accepted as part of a track are generously backed by Jewish organizations and entrepreneurs looking to support innovation in that specific area. The deadline for track specific invitation requests is February 20.
